About Ibex

When Peter Helmetag and John Fernsell met in 1997, there was one key reason why they founded Ibex Outdoor Clothing: According to Fernsell, "all outdoor clothes look the same and are not functional". He felt there was a lack of natural materials on the market besides Gore-Tex and polyester fleece. Since then, they have been producing innovative collections of functional underwear made from merino wool for active and nature-loving target groups. The proud head of the Alpine ibex, the Capra Ibex, looks down from the label as the logo.

Since its foundation, Ibex has identified with the sustainable raw material merino wool and exploits the advantages of this naturally renewable raw material. The breathability, anti-bacterial properties and natural comfort against the skin offer what John Fernsell found lacking in other outdoor brands and the materials they use. The art of wool, as Ibex calls it, is also in the feel. The sheep wears wool fibers of different thicknesses on different parts of its body. The thicker fibers prove their worth for autumn and winter clothing, the very fine fibers for the first layer and summer pieces. Human hair has 60 microns! Sheep use the finest hair fiber of 17.5 microns. As these fine wool fibers only grow in a few places on the sheep, the raw material for these products is more complex to produce. The company is made up of people who love the outdoors and know from their own experience what qualities make outdoor clothing a real favorite.

You can also tell what makes the company tick by the fact that the employees' dogs have their own portrait on the homepage and you can guess that they are patiently waiting for their owners to finish work on a merino blanket before heading out into the great outdoors again. What is certain is that the garments are tested by the company's own employees and improved and optimized to the maximum by experiencing them first-hand. Merino wool is flame retardant, making it ideal for a night by the campfire. Depending on how tightly the material is woven, it offers a natural sun protection factor of up to UPF 50+, making it an ideal choice in summer too. Ibex was inspired by desert nomadic tribes to produce clothing for warm regions. Every year, Ibex tinkers with its functional clothing line and has developed everything from fine underwear to bike pants and hoodies. The large leisure line is a testament to what moves and inspires the employees from the very beginning.
