About Soto

The Japanese burners from Soto have been around since 1978, when the company was founded by Hajime Yamamoto, who worked in a burner factory in Japan, a region where temperatures can drop to 40 degrees below zero. The cooking stoves commonly used at the time took two to three minutes to heat up. Yamamoto's aim was to reduce this time. His vision: a "blue flame" that ignites in the shortest possible time. In addition, the burners should also work in extreme cold and strong winds. For this task, he sought out a team of creative engineers and innovative minds who shared his determination to develop a burner that heats up in seconds. Shortly afterwards, the Shinfuji Burner was born. It only needed 15 seconds preheating time.

By 1986, the burners were gaining popularity in industry and among end consumers. Growing interest from private individuals spurred Yamamoto and his engineers to design a kerosene cooking stove specifically for household use. They continued to perfect their burners and added a growing line of products, including a lantern that was impervious to wind with its strong flame. The perfect utensil for outdoor adventures in extreme weather situations. This was the starting signal for the Soto Outdoors brand, which was launched worldwide in 2010. The naming was simple, Soto means outdoor in Japanese. Since then, Soto has won five industry awards for its burners.
