About YKK

The YKK Corporation was founded in 1934 by the parent company Tadao Yoshida in Japan. YKK stands for Yoshida Kogyo Kabushikigaisha. As a developer and manufacturer, the Japanese company can look back on over 80 years of experience in the field of fastening technology. Zippers and innovative zipper technologies made of metal and plastic, as well as adhesive fasteners, textile and plastic products are among its specialties. YKK Deutschland GmbH was founded in Mönchengladbach in 1967. The company headquarters were later relocated to Mainhausen, but a branch office was retained. In 1972, the production of zippers started in Wenkbach near Marburg in Germany. YKK was thus one of the first Japanese companies to produce in Germany.

The company later expanded its product range in industry and specialist retail to include metal haberdashery, adhesive fasteners, textile tapes and plastic fastening systems. In 2000, YKK Switzerland was incorporated with a branch in Zurich. Today, over 44,000 employees from 71 countries produce and sell YKK products. However, it is not only the parent company and name that are Japanese at YKK, but also the company philosophy: the "cycle of goodness", which says that no one can be successful without allowing others to share in their success. For YKK, this means producing high-quality products and services. The zip is often the critical moving element in a product. If it works perfectly, the product is usable and has a long service life.
