The Californian clothing manufacturer Patagonia was founded in 1973 by Yvon Chouinard. Patagonia developed from a small company that manufactured accessories for climbing. To this day, alpinism remains the core of a global company that still produces clothing for climbing, but also for skiing, snowboarding, surfing, fly fishing, paddling and running. All these sports are silent. None of them require a motor, and none of them will get you a roar of applause. Each sport rewards you with hard-earned grace and moments of connection between man and nature.
 
The company values reflect the values of a group of climbing and surfing enthusiasts who once launched Patagonia and their minimalist style. The product design also reveals their preference for simplicity and functionality. At Patagonia, a love of pristine and magnificent landscapes means taking part in the fight to preserve them. And helping to reverse the worrying environmental state of the planet. Patagonia dedicates its time, services and at least 1% of its turnover to hundreds of mainly small environmental groups all over the world who are trying to turn this tide.
 
Patagonia knows that their business activities - from lighting stores to bleaching shirts - are linked to environmental pollution. That's why they are constantly working to reduce this impact. Patagonia uses recycled polyester in many of their garments and instead of using pesticides, they only grow their cotton organically and have been using this organically grown cotton for every single Patagonia cotton garment since 1996. Furthermore, recycled materials are used in more than 60% of all products.
