Kaenon Polarized was founded in 2001 by two brothers, Steve and Darren Rosenberg, in Newport Beach. As passionate sailors, they had correspondingly high expectations of sports sunglasses. Their goal was to develop the best sunglasses. The high weight of the mineral sizes was a disadvantage for extreme use on the water and the risk of sinking the glasses in the sea was correspondingly high. Real glass is fragile, plastic lenses do not have an optimal image and polycarbonate lenses are not scratch-resistant enough. That's why Kaenon has developed a new polarising lens that meets all the desired requirements. The result is the so-called SR91 material, which combines the optical clarity of mineral glass with the impact resistance and light weight of polycarbonate. SR91 is neither glass, CR 39, polycarbonate nor Twirex.

 

The real key to the high polarization effect is the company's own polarization element Glare 86. GLARE 86 is fitted into the SR91 lens material at a thickness of 30 micrometres. In contrast to other polarizing elements, the company's own Glare 86 is characterized by its exceptional polarizing power. Glare 86 filters out up to 99% of the unpleasant diffuse light radiation. And best of all, the Kaenon Polarized lenses are anti-reflective and water-repellent on the back. Thanks to these versatile innovations, the tank top ensures optimal color and depth perception, improves contrast and reduces overall eye strain.

 

Colts Laboratories, an independent materials testing laboratory, has certified Kaenon's SR91 polarized lenses, giving them a sharpness and clarity score of 40 lines of resolution. This is the highest score that can be achieved in the strict American industry standard ANSI. Z.87.1 can be achieved. The materials testing laboratory has even determined that SR91 meets the high requirements of ANSI. Z.87.1 requirements for impact resistance to an even higher mass.
