Tent pad: effective protection against moisture and ground cold

Do you want to pitch your tent in a different place every day and not have to go to the trouble of removing dirt before packing it up each time? Or maybe you want to camp outdoors in a very minimalist way and do without the inner tent? Then a robust tent flysheet is just the thing for you. You can simply place a tent pad under your tent to keep the tent floor clean or to have a surface to sleep on if your tent doesn't have a groundsheet or inner tent.

Here at Transa, you can find camping tent pads in different sizes so that you can choose the right one for your tent.

Tent pads: robust, waterproof and dirt-repellent

A tent pad has many advantages. In order for it to fulfil its purpose optimally when camping, it should have the following features, among others:

  • It protects the tent floor from dirt, moisture and damage and prevents condensation from rising to the ground.
  • Thanks to the tent groundsheet, you also protect your tent floor from damage caused by stones, sharp branches or sharp-edged shells as well as from pollution caused by mud and sludge.
  • The material (e.g. nylon with triple polyurethane coating) is extremely robust, tear-resistant, dirt-repellent and waterproof. A water column of 7000 millimetres to 10000 millimetres is ideal).
  • Tent pads are available in different masses: either exactly fitting your tent model or the cut-to-size version - so you remain flexible.
  • A practical feature is a packsack in which you can stow the tent groundsheet safely and space-savingly after use.
  • Some tarpaulins reflect body heat thanks to a coating and can therefore also be used as an emergency blanket or survival blanket for first aid.
  • Alternatively, you can also use the tent pads as a tarp to protect you from the sun or rain if you don't have a tent with you.
  • Good models are also UV-stable. This is particularly advantageous if you use the tent pad as an awning or tarp.
  • Multiple aluminium eyelets in the reinforced edge of the tent pad allow you to easily attach it using guy ropes and pegs.

Find the right size

For some tent models, there are tent pads that fit exactly. If you can't find these for your camping tent, you can also cut your own tent pads to the size you need. To do this, choose a sufficiently large size and then adjust it to the mass of your tent using sharp scissors. Make sure that the pad is slightly larger than the tent dimensions so that there are no gaps around the edges.
