The minimalist upper, made of tightly woven polyester mesh, is protected against abrasion from branches and rocks. Strategically placed 3D-printed overlays provide structural stability and protect against tears, while the waterproof XeroTex membrane blocks moisture and allows water vapor to escape. At the ankle, a knitted collar (Debris Collar) fits snugly against the foot, keeping small stones, dirt, and snow out.
The sole is 12 mm high—comprising a 9.5 mm-thick outsole and a removable, 3.5 mm-thick insole. As is typical for barefoot shoes, the shoe has zero heel-to-toe drop: the heel and forefoot sit flat at the same height. For the first time in a Xero Shoes model, a flexible ESS stone protection plate is integrated, which distributes the pressure from sharp stones without restricting the foot’s flexibility.
The outsole, with 3.5 mm low tread lugs, provides traction on muddy trails and loose gravel; EVA cutouts reduce weight; and functional lacing straps keep the foot securely in place.
Like all Xero Shoes models, the Mesa Summit WP is cut to follow the natural shape of the foot: the wide toe box allows the toes to spread and supports balance and stability.
