Search for Utopia

For four years, sisters Julia and Lisa Hermes searched for alternative communities, indigenous resistance movements, eco-villages and dropouts. To do so, they hitchhiked to southern Europe, caught a ride on a boat and sailed across the Atlantic, briefly become millionaires in Venezuela, paddled for weeks along the Amazon in a wooden canoe, and walked through the Patagonian wilderness to Tierra del Fuego. Their goal: to find a better world.
Namibia

Namibia is a place that’s been close to his heart for years. Spitzkoppe, Kaokoveld, Sossusvlei, Twyfelfontein and Epupa Falls – Dirk Schäfer travels to all these epic places by motorbike and photographs them bathed in the evening sun or the full moon. But for him, it is the locals who open the door to this wondrous world, including rhino conservationists, desert experts and indigenous people who know neither property nor ownership.

Florian Astor follows his intuition, leaves his career at Lufthansa and hikes 8,500 kilometres through the wilderness. He walks from the southern to the northern tip of New Zealand, a journey full of breathtaking nature and desolate loneliness, full of exhaustion and loving hospitality. He realises far too late that it was never about the destination.
